For those new to ESSB, a first question is often, “what’s the rabbit hole?” The answer is at once simple, yet complex. The “rabbit hole” is a reference to Alice in Wonderland, and typically is used as slang for going on an adventure – often a convoluted and perhaps confusing journey. In our case the journey is the pursuit of excellent audio quality on single side band.
Many of the stations in the basement and elsewhere use outboard rack gear to sweeten the audio of their signal. Some have a modest collection, others more esoteric and arcane. No matter what, the journey and process is the point. While some will say, “it sounds great, stop tweaking,” for many on 40m, the tweaking is where the fun is.
